“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!” Those were my exact words when I discovered that not only was Urban Decay releasing a new Naked palette, but that the colors would also be rose toned. I ordered the Urban Decay Naked3 ($52) the moment it was released. I’m glad I didn’t procrastinate – these palettes sold out within hours, much to the dismay of 75% of the makeup wearing population. The palette arrived just in time to bring with me on my annual Thanksgiving vacation – it’s the only eyeshadow palette I packed.

The Urban Decay Naked3 palette features 12 beautiful shades of eyeshadow. Of those shades, only 3 of them are matte. There are 6 rosy shades: Dust, Burnout, Limit, Buzz, Nooner, and Trick. I almost didn’t count Trick as a rosy shade because it’s so very gold, but when I viewed it side-by side with other golds I own, the rose qualities become very obvious. There are also 5 shades in the taupe family – Liar, Factory, Mugshot, and Blackheart, and finally there is one light cream-colored highlighter shade called Strange.

I consider the overall palette to be neutral to cool, though I think these shades would look spectacular on both warm and cool skin tones. I’ve heard a few people compare this palette to the Lorac Unzippedand the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes 2013, and I have to say, I don’t think the similarities are great enough to skip the Naked3. I find the Lorac Unzipped shades to be warmer and much bronzier, and the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette leans violet and warm melon.

In terms of formula, most of these shadows are the buttery dream we’ve come to expect from Urban Decay. Trick has a little bit of fallout, but nothing compared to many of the shades in the Naked2. I definitely haven’t experience the “fairy face” effect I repeatedly got from the Naked2. In fact, I became so frustrated with the Naked2 fallout that I ended up giving it away, but the Naked3 has been a delight. The only color that’s disappointed in Naked3 has been Strange. I love highlight colors, and they are often the first shades I hit pan on in any of my palettes, but Strange is a bit of a letdown. I find it to be a little too dry and powdery, and the color payoff isn’t consistent with the richness of the rest of the colors in this palette.

All of the shades (except for Strange) last around 10 hours on me before I see any fading – that’s with an eye primer. I haven’t tried wearing it without.
Lastly, much like the other Naked palettes, the Naked3 comes with a dual ended brush. I’ve got a pretty big brush collection, so I’ve only used this one for swatching. I can’t comment on its performance, but it seems to be well constructed, and I love how sleek it looks.

Skin & Tonics Rating:
Performance: 5/5 -Beautiful, long-lasting shades with great color payoff
Quality: 4/5 – Great texture; I wish Strange performed better but the rest are top notch. Beautiful, sturdy casing
Value: 5/5 – I’ll be using this palette quite a lot, but I still expect it will last me a long time. There’s a lot of shadow in here! Well worth the $52.
Overall: 4.7/5
